European Green Capital
Trying to find examples about cities with sustainable developments I remember my city in Spain, Vitoria, which is the European Green Capital for 2012, so I decided to have a look at cities of other years. There are very good ideas in this cities:

- 2010 : Stockholm
- 2011: Hamburg
- 2012: Vitoria

Week 6 - Update
Following on from a frustrating end to Week 5, we’ve made
some really good progress this week!
As usual, we met as a group before our afternoon tutorials, each armed with sketches and photos we’d been developing over the last week.
Pulling together so many ideas isn’t a straight forward task, but by the end of the day we were all leaning over one (very rough) masterplan, reaching for our Sharpies and bringing everything together!
Last week we were very clear in identifying our three main aims:

Pulling together so many ideas isn’t a straight forward task, but by the end of the day we were all leaning over one (very rough) masterplan, reaching for our Sharpies and bringing everything together!
Last week we were very clear in identifying our three main aims:
1. Bring water from the river into the site
2. Spread the energy surrounding the O2 out through the site
3. Connect the O2 and the Thames Barrier Park
And following on from today’s discussions, we’re now
proposing to make the site entirely car
free, a first for London! It’s a really exciting proposal that we’re all supporting. Children can play in the streets with their neighbours, just
like they used to!
“The most popular place to
play for children today is at home, whereas adults said their favourite place
to play as youngsters was in the streets” (The Guardian, 2 April 2009)
TUTORIAL FEEDBACK
Consider increasing building density
Remember riverside land is valuable development land
Research tidal range of the Thames (including height of
current flood defences)
Wetland canals/channels - with consideration for tidal
rise and fall - how will these operate?
Develop undulating topography of the green spine
Integrate further transport links (tram stops, Boris bike
stations, street car hubs, cable car western extension, etc)
Consider freecycling / biogas / carbon zero development
SLOGAN IDEAS
1. London’s first car free community
2. Float through/around London’s car free community
Anymore suggestions…?

sketch design
another creative -and therefore busy- Wednesday ended, but this time with most of the members of group six being kind of confused and uncertain regarding our sketch design approach....
There is a strong conceptual idea (fishbone), which can be further explored by an illustration of a leaf full of veins, in a more ecological/environmental friendly approach.
There are basic aims focusing on how the conceptual idea is could be implemented effectively and straight forward, namely;
- bringing the river in
- spreading the energy vibrations of O2 arena
- expanding the Green Chain Walk
However, there is still space for further discussions/debates/thoughts for the character and the principal features of the Greenwich Peninsula.
Let's hope and enough time for filtering, elaborating and refining all these too....
